Assemblage Frameworks
A 2-Day Creative Workshop
with C. Asa Call
Sat. Aug. 1st and Sun. Aug. 2nd, 2026
Assemblage Frameworks: collapsing the spectrum of disjunction and cohesion to generate insight and build visual metaphors
C. Asa Call is an assemblage artist working with movement, image, language, and space. They call on their complex background in classical and contemporary forms, their role in developing Postballet, and a a decades-long improvisational practice that incorporates somato-sensory layering, vocalization, and narrative physicalization. In this 2-day workshop we’ll use improvisation to dip our fingers into many of these various tools, so we can try out different systems of meaning-making. At the heart of this exploration is how challenge ourselves towards the oppositional values between disjunction and cohesion to set ourselves up for surprising insights that lead to powerful metaphors and meaningful experiences.
About the Location
The workshop will take place at The Shed, a small stand-alone building converted into a movement and arts studio. C. currently teaches Dance and Pilates out of the space as well as hosts artist residencies, showings, and other art events throughout the year.
Located in the DIY arts hub of the Georgetown neighborhood on the southside of Seattle, The Shed is situated in the cozy setting of C.’s backyard, providing a comfortable and private area for focusing on creative work.
“For the first time I’ve created a workshop that delves into the improvisational tools and strategies of my creative practice over the last 20+ years. With over 15 years teaching experience, I’m excited to share my findings with you in a way that will allow you to pursue your own creative interests with depth and confidence.”

Because a portion of the workshop will extrapolate from classical ballet training, I recommend you have a working knowledge of ballet vocabulary and an intermediate level (at least 5 years) of training in ballet. We want to know the rules in order to break them!
